Moderator's Note:

The default return address when replying to a message from mems@isi.edu is, for
many users, also mems@isi.edu to posted messages. Thank you. W.C. Athas.

Here is a suggestion:

  * How about automatically changing the return address to the senders address?
  * If people really want to share their response to a post with the rest of
    us, they can easily Cc: mems@isi.edu.
  * It should not be too hard to write a program that filters the incoming mail
    and simply grabs the sender's email address and adds it to the end of a
    Reply-To: line. Doing this will prevent novices and people like me, who
    slip up, from unintentionally posting a private response to the entire
    group.
  * As an added bonus:
    If we decide to reply to a post, we would not have to hunt for the sender's
    email address and type it in.
