I've used a thin coating of high-viscosity vacuum grease (eg Dow Corning 976V or
Apiezon) on the O-ring for a similar purpose (though not in that tool
specifically). Standard caveat: make sure the grease you choose is compatible
with your process conditions, and make sure to precondition your vacuum system
when adding the grease before running the tool with your precious samples in it.
