Try sandwiching your strip between two sactificial metal strips.  By
varying the material of those, you'll be able to get the reproducibility
you want.

On the other hand, folks who make shaving blades may be able to help you
if your application is lucrative enough for them to get interested (with
their volumes, I imagine they are a pretty spoiled lot).
