Hi George,
That info would have to come from Ken Westra. I was merely
reacting on a question from him.
It would indeed be perfectly possible to 'publish' info or thoughts on
practical issues in the mems-mailing list, that's what it was
made for I guess (and it *is* being used for this). For me that would work
fine but I see many people ending up not reading the mailing-list anymore
because of too much 'noise' in the group (numerous mails with questions
genre 'where can I buy a dry etcher?').
A 'web corner' has the advantage that you only read things when you want
to (you have to know its existence of course) and decide in a glimp
whether it has something interesting for you. Of course, the problem is:
it has to be maintained/updated regularly and read by many people
otherwise it is not worth the effort.
A good example of such a thing is the slashdot.org site for
(mostly) linux-related news. People even talk about the 'slashdot-effect'
(i.e. when some issue is mentioned on the site, a lot of fuzz is being
made and it becomes a hot topic). Of course, since I presume there
exists a much larger critical mass of Linux-hackers than of
mems-scientists/engineers, the comparison doesn't hold all the way.
