Take a look at our web sight. We are the largest MEMS foundry. You can get
a good list of what you need to run a foundry. On our sight is the metrology
tools we use.
There is no money in prototyping so our philosophy at IMT is to except only
programs that will lead into mass manufacturing. We have yet to see MEMS
devices built in small labs that can move into a manufacture environment.
As for metrology, the type of equipment you need is dictated by the type of
MEMS you are making, and you can not make any MEMS devices with out real
time feedback.
There is no standard in package in MEMS. Some sort of dicing in house is
needed. If you can fit into a standard package it is best to farm that out.

Subject: [mems-talk] some doubts about MEMS
My name is Cesare. I'm a student from Brasil coursing a master program.
The subject of my studies is a slight knowledge about MEMS/MST 's
manufacturing.
In my researches I need to (superficially) project some kind of
infrastructure to manufacture MEMS/MST. I have some doubts...
I was wondering if you could answer to me.....please.....1) In terms of
investments in infrastructure (equipment, labs, clean rooms, staff...);
What are the main differences between the two kind of infrastructure
(prototyping / manufacturing)?......2) In terms of revenue; What are the
main differences between the two kind of infrastructure (prototyping /
manufacturing)?....3) Assuming that I 'm not interested in build a
infrastructure to manufacture MEMS (or do not have conditions). Are
prototyping (only) services attractive to fabs or minifabs? ...In others
words... Do foundries have interesting in prototyping services or every
foundry usually do your own prototypes?....4)..the last one .... What kind
of service is interesting to a foundry?...in others words...if I want a
fab in my city... what kind of services (I was thinking in prototyping/
or metrology/ or assembly and packaging) would be an attractive reason
for this fab come to my city ?......thank you very much....
